-         Breeding Properties:

Magnum is a bittering/aroma type cultivar, bred in 1980 at Huell, the German Hop Research Instititute, from the American variety Galena and the German male 75/5/3. It is grown in Slovenia for last 12 years. The yields are good and stable. It has extremely big and heavy cones..

-         Characteristic Ingredients and Brewing Quality:

Magnum has a bittering aroma. It contains 11.0 % - 15.5 % of α-acids (21 – 29 % of cohumulone). The ratio between α- and -acids is 1.6 – 3.2. The essential oil content varies from 1.6 to 2.6 % of dry hops. Magnum has a very good storage stability. Magnum is very suitable for extraction and for combination with other varieties in the brewing process.

Alpha Acids:                        11.0 – 15.5 %

Beta Acids:                           5.0 – 7.0 %

Cohumulone:                      21 – 29 % of alpha acids

Total Oil:                                1.6 – 2.6 % of dry matter

Myrcene:                               30 – 45 % of whole oil

α – humulene:                     30– 45 % of whole oil

β – caryophyllenne:              8 – 13 % of whole oil

Farnesene:                            <1 % of whole oil

Linalool:                               0,2 - 0,7 % whole oil
